A small WordPress plugin that allows you to specify your own default avatar image to use for new users (who haven’t configured a gravatar).
Installation
- Download the release package
- Unzip the package (discard the folder with version number)
- Add the folder custom-default-avatar to your plugins directory (…/wp-content/plugins/)
- Upload the new files to your WordPress server (if you aren’t working directly on the server)
- Visit the plugins page in WordPress and activate the plugin
Use
Once the plugin is installed and activated:
- Upload a square image you would like to use as your default avatar
- Open the ‘Custom default avatar’ page under ‘Settings’ in WordPress
- Add the path to your image to the ‘Custom default avatar’ field
- Submit the updated settings ‘Save Changes’
- Now open the ‘Discussion’ page under ‘Settings’ in WordPress
- Select your new avatar from the ‘Default Avatar’ near the bottom of the page
- Submit the updated settings ‘Save Changes’
You should now see your custom default avatar appear whenever a new user (who hasn’t configured a gravatar) posts a comment (unless your theme disables avatars).
